Anticipation is already high for Ashton Kutcher's Sept. 19 debut as Charlie Sheen's replacement on CBS' Two and a Half Men. CBS President Les Moonves has already suggested that it could be the highest rated television episode of all time. Now, with the news that Sheen's ex-wife Denise Richards may appear in the season premiere, the number of viewers could jump to an astronomical level.
According to the Huffington Post, Richards, 40, has been approached by the show's producers to appear in the premiere episode. Though the episode has already been shot, Richards -- who previously did a two-episode arc on the show as a love interest to Sheen's Charlie Harper -- easily could be edited into the action (presumably as one of the mourners at the character's rumored funeral).
"Initially Denise said no out of respect for Charlie but everyone is hoping she changes her mind," a producer on the show told Huffington Post. "She did two episodes a while back but nothing would be bigger than turning up on Ashton's debut episode."
Another Two and a Half Men insider concurs. "Denise is an excellent actress who can do everything. Comedy, drama, and let's face it, she's not bad to look at either," he said. "Having her make a surprise appearance in the debut episode would be genius and the producers of the show are brilliant for suggesting it."
It may be a brilliant idea, but whether it'll come to fruition is another matter. Despite the fact that Sheen and Richards have had their problems in the past, Denise has been noticeably kind to Charlie in her recent comments, even offering to temporarily take custody of Sheen's 2-year-old twins, Bob and Max, until her ex could get his life back together. And Sheen, 45, was surprisingly complimentary towards Richards' recent memoir, tweeting her" "Your book rocks!"
It sure seems like these formerly warring exes have buried the hatchet, and it's doubtful Richards would jeopardize her family's newfound harmony for a cameo on a TV show. Of course, it's also conceivable that Sheen will give his blessing to the whole thing; no one's ever accused him of being predictable.
Whether or not Richards does pop up in Two and a Half Men's ninth season premiere, one thing is certain: Kutcher, with his goofy charm and six million Twitter followers, is sure to pull in a giant audience all by himself.
